In the Brazilian retail market, the presence of Walmart Brazil (currently Big supermarket chain) is indisputable. As one of the iconic brands in the sector, the American multinational had ambitious expansion plans when it arrived in Brazil in 1995 as the world’s largest retailer.
In order to redefine its position in the market, drive growth, and achieve a prominent position in the retail sector, Walmart Brazil needed to find strategic partners capable of assisting in the identification and negotiation of commercial spaces for the installation of its stores. And this, throughout Brazil.

Ocupantes, a renowned real estate consulting firm and a leader in Brazil, was selected for this challenge and played a crucial role in this expansion journey. The partnership between the two companies began in 2008 and extended until 2012, totaling nearly five years of dedicated work. By approaching a personalized strategy to meet the specific needs of Walmart Brazil, in different formats and locations, the Ocupantes team focused on deeply understanding the highlighted demands and objectives. This ensured efficient real estate solutions that were aligned with the company’s sought-after aspirations.
